Bad Boy Platium Producer AMADEUS talks to Rox Star
Bad Boy Producer Amadeus Delivers Platinum Hits!
By Roxanne Blake
You’ve heard his music many times before and this Multi Platinum selling Bad Boy Producer has everybody trying to get his Swagg on their tracks. Antwan “Amadeus” Thompson is nothing short of Genius and with production on so many recent albums such as Bow Wow’s with “Anything you can do”, Mike Jones ft Trey Songz “I Know”, He even has a record on Paul Walls brand new album (May 12th release) that features Yung Joc and Gorilla Zoe called “Fly” which is a guaranteed head banger. Amadeus has two tracks on the new anticipated Canibus and Keith Murray album and also just recently solidified a record on the new T.I project. He is nothing like your local starving producer; Amadeus is grinding with the hardest workers in the music industry. He has created music with the most notable in the game. His production has graced songs with Lil Wayne, 50 Cent, Busta Rhymes, Danity Kane, Fabolous, Elephant Man, Red Café, Talib Kweli, Marques Houston, Foxy Brown, Slim Thug, Jim Jones and so many more. He is also Trey Songz Band Director. Even Diddy recognized the drive that this talented musician possesses and co-signed for him. You may not be too familiar with him but the celebrities are and Swagg has just granted your access into the life and mind of the extraordinary music producer Amadeus.
Where are you from and where does your love for music come from?
Representing Bronx Ny, Born and raised. I have a big musical background growing up I had both parents in my household that were music lovers of all different genres from disco to R&B and gospel, so I’ve always have had an opportunity to hear great music. I was blessed to have gone to private school where I began to study the art and theory of music. I started out with drumming at 4th grade and still to this day I’m a die-hard musician. I play the keyboard as well but my first instrument and love is the drums.
How did you get into Producing as a career?
I thought I was going to be a rapper at first and then I got schooled because I already knew a few successful people in the music business. They told me its kind of rough to be a successful rapper selling platinum records, 9 out of 10 times you didn’t eat as a rapper or make as much money as you thought you would. I got the advice that ‘since you were already into music playing drums why not produce?” at the time I didn’t know what the definition of a producer was. It was simply said ‘the cat that makes the beats’, I was like, ‘from scratch? How do you do that?’ A guy at my church at the time leant me a keyboard and I took it home and stayed inside for the whole summer and was pressing and pressing and I got to really love and appreciate doing it, and now here I am.
And now you have your own Company?
Yes I do Platinum Boy Music Inc. It was a company that I started and only consisted of myself at first, of course. How I came up with the name platinum boy was, I was sitting in the ASCAP (The American Society Of Composers, Authors and Publishers) office and I needed to come up with a publishing company for myself. I came up with the name Platinum Boy It was straight to the point because I obviously wanted to be a producer that delivered platinum hits and platinum records so I wanted to call myself platinum boy. As time went by the company has expanded and consists of artists, songwriters, producer and I have a management company under the umbrella. We’re definitely looking forward to great things in 09.
How did you Hook Up With Bad Boy Records?
Its pretty dope actually. Derek D Dot Angelettie was one of my mentors coming up in the early stages of my production career. He was hands on with helping me to make my tracks hotter, drums knock, sequencing and stuff like that. He was one of the first main producers off of Bad Boy so it was an honor to have him on my side and cheer me on. So I’ve always been a part of them being I was under D Dot. Its funny how it came about we were discussing management and who I was rolling with at the time and the situation was that we had a meeting and they came up with a situation that we all felt comfortable with and they offered me to be a part of the team. It’s definitely an honor to be a part and I didn’t take it lightly and Bad Boy is getting it!
What Familiar names have you produced for off the top?
Deep Breath. 50 cent, Camron, Jim Jones, Mike Jones, Juelz Santana, Marques Houston Danity Kane, Busta Rhymes, Remy Ma, Papoos, Hell Rell, Trina, Bow Wow, Talib Kweli, Trey Songz, Pimp C R.I.P, Slim Thug, Red café, Fabolous, The Lox, Foxy Brown Lil Mo and it goes on and on.
Who would you say you have had the most chemistry with and enjoyed working with the most?
Umm, Good Question. I honestly would have to say two people Mike Jones and Lil Mo. The reason why I name the two is because they are the artists I have the most records with. Lil Mo I have 3 records with her and Mike Jones I have for or five. So I really got to see where they wanted to go creatively and got to vibe out with them. That a thing that producers today don’t really get to do with Pro Tools being here and other software what happens is a lot of artist just take the track off the CD dump it into Pro Tools and write a song to it sometimes you get to be a part of the mixing process sometimes you don’t. The more I become successful I’d like to be more hands on and build with the artist from scratch and be more hands on with it. It doesn’t happen enough in the industry today. When a producer creates a track it’s a blueprint and it’s like breaking a baby. When the Artist comes ands adds his colors and vision to the track I feel like and artist and producer needs to come together and make the best song you can make it. So I would have to say those two artists because I got in with them to put out the records that are out today.
What projects are you working on now?
I’m working on Puffs new album, Finishing up Day 26’s album, I have two songs on Trinas New Album, Bow Wows album, Mike Jones album, and Paul Wall. I’m also working with Rakim, Fabolous and Busta. I’m working on my artist Tiffany Mynon, to us she is the ‘Angel of R&B’, and she’s touring all over the world with artist such as: Jay-Z, Kelis and Talib Kweli. She’s been featured on Jimmy Kimmel and on the Dave Chappelle’s Block Party. I’m working on her project right now. I’m willing to work with whoever’s out there who’s interested in what I bring to the table.
How would you describe your Swagg?
Depends I can be laid back and quiet and there are times I can be aggressive and do what I got to do to get what I want. I’m very classy and very stylish. I’ve always been a church boy since a youngin’ so I do the suits. I do five button suits, the three button suits, the cufflinks and the plaid shirts, pin stripe tie with the gators on. I do what it do. On a regular day, you can catch me with a fresh hoodie, jeans and a throwback pair of Jordans. I get it in.
Do you have any Shout Outs and last words?
To my wife & son AJ, my entire family, my artist Tiffany Mynon "Angel of R&B", Ro Garcia Pres. of PBM Management & my right hand, Platinum Boy Music team of producers & entire PBM family, To Bad Boy Management, The Boss Diddy, Francesca Spero, Kevin Thomson, my attorney Jeff Worob & Ashley Collier, my publisher Cherry Lane Music Publishing, Jay Brown, Fabienne Leys, Entire Daddy's House team, to ALL the artists that gave me a chance and to all of my fans & supporters THANX soooooo much ya'll keep me motivated to keep going! Nicki Minaj the definition of SwaGG Girlicious
Article and Interview By Roxanne Blake
You may know her as Nicki Lewinski, Barbie, or Onika Miraj but we all know her as Nicki Minaj. She is known as the baddest bitch in the rap game hands down and some would say she is the illest period. A native of Jamaica Queens NYC, talent is something Nicki has in abundance. She can rap, sing, write and act and she is only 23. She stepped on the scene with her breakthrough appearance on The Come Up DVD and since then she has been buzzing on the streets, the Internet and in your stereo. Nicki Minaj has a Swagg of her own. She has a few personas: Nicki The Ninja, Nicki The Harajuku Barbie and Nicki the Boss. At the first sight of Nicki Minaj it is evident she is a sex symbol and some would think that her sex appeal is what got her in the position for success. That’s until you listen to her music. Her lyrical ability is over the top so its no wonder she is down with Lil Waynes, Young Money camp and is managed by Gucci Manes aunts company Mizay Entertainment. She has a refined flow, clever punch lines, intelligent metaphors and an erotic voice that can lure in any body. Her name Minaj pronounced ménage is usually confused for her sexual preference and although she is open about her attraction to both men and women the name originally comes from the wordplay of her last name Miraj.
She started as an aspiring R&B singer then turned to rap with the realization that she didn’t want to sing love songs. In 2007 she released the mix tape Playtime Is Over, 2008 The Sucka Free mix tape, and the release of her Spring 2009 mix tape Beam Me Up Scotty has her in high demand. She has collaborated with artist such as Lil Wayne, Gucci Mane, Busta Rhymes, Drake, Bobby Valentino, Jadakiss and Beyonce. Nicki Minaj is highly anticipated and although she has not yet inked a record deal she is exploring her options and Nicki the Boss is not signing to just anybody that want her. We might think she is the baddest bitch in the game right now but to her the grind is just beginning.

Bangladesh The Dope Man Got Those Heroine Tracks

Bangladesh-The Hit Maker
By Roxanne Blake
He is the producer that changed the way we listen to music, the way we bounce and revolutionized the rap game. He is the magic behind Lil Waynes, A Millie track, his name is Bangladesh and his Swagg has producers worrying about how they are going to compete. If you are lucky enough to cop a beat from Bangladesh you are almost guaranteed to have a hit single and a high volume in album sales. Originally from Iowa and now residing in Altanta he has worked on familiar songs as: Whats your Fantasy- Ludacris, Bossy- Kelis, Missy Elliot – Click Clack, Ciara- Hotline, of course Lil Waynes biggest track A Millie and Diva by Beyonce, which is another version to the A Millie beat. Bangladesh’s versatility has allowed him to work with many Artist and although he has a signature sound all of his beats are uniquely different. In his words ‘If you want a hit record, come see me I’m the dope man; I got those heroin tracks’. Swagg had the exclusive interview with Mr. Bangladesh himself and he lets us know how he makes it all happen.
You worked with Ludacris on the hit debut single ‘Whats Your Fantasy’ and produced other tracks on the Album ‘Back For The First Time’. How did you two hook up to make history?
We met each other through a mutual friend and we became friends. Ludacris was a Jockey on the radio and was trying to get into rapping. I started to make beats and I gave them to him. He rapped on them and then we made it happen.
How did you get into Producing and Beat Making?
I always wanted to make beats I was always into sounds and patterns. In High School I was trying to figure out what I was going to do so I started studying producers like Timbaland. After that I started saving up and bought the equipment I needed to start my career.
Who would you say you have had the most musical chemistry with?
There is no particular person, anybody who let me do my job. You gotta let a Producer Produce and let me do me. It all about making a hot beat, the new shit, the hot shit. The worst is if somebody is trying to get something out of me that I don’t do. Who ever I work with lets me do me. There is no brain wrestling with an artist I make the beat and they feel it and we work together on the track. It’s all about the music and the feeling. It comes from the feeling within and once the artist feels it we are on a good page. I’m a producer so I make the beat and I’m in the studio letting them know what sounds good and what doesn’t. Even with the mix engineer I let them know how it should sound.
How did Lil Wayne get on the A Millie Beat?
I made that beat off of feeling it was not made for anybody. When I’m done with a beat I do think about who would sound good on the track and Lil Wayne was one of the first that came to mind. We have a mutual female friend so I sent her some beats to give to him and he chose the A Millie.
On Beyonce’s recent Album ‘I am Sasha Fierce’ you produced ‘Diva’, which is very similar to A Millie. How did that come about?
The Diva is a twin of the Millie beat its from the same baby. I had the inspiration and I was brainstorming and it turned into Diva. I put it out and thought who would be better on the track than Beyonce. Sean Garrett the songwriter wrote Diva for her. He writes for everybody and when I played it for him and he liked it so much that it made his day.
How would you describe your Musical Ability?
My music is described as foreign to the ear. It’s everything, its hard, soft, sexual, aggressive, rock, alternative, euro, everything. If you listen to my music you can hear elements of different genres in it and that’s what makes me different. I don’t do what every other producer is doing musically I stay ahead. Before I made beats other producers and creative sounds would motivate me and now sometimes I’ll hear a track that inspires me to make a beat.
A lot of people are out there playing with different programs making beats with dreams of being a Producer what advice would you offer?
Get your craft up and keep practicing. Create a sound you can brand. Don’t make music that you are competing with every other beat maker. If you really want to get on stop following and be a leader. I get a lot of CD’s from producers and they are excited because they made 20 beats, but they all sound the same. They hear snap songs and make beats like that and all their tracks sound the same with nothing significant. There is not a smash beat or something I can work with, it’s the same pattern. My sound is different every time but it took me 4 years into the industry to evolve. I created a signature sound and it does come in time. I’ve been doing this for 10 years and it took Lil Wayne in 08 to solidify it. It’s all about consistency and being patient especially if you have something new. I its different people don’t know how to take it until you get Lil Wayne or Beyonce on the track then its accepted. All The elite pros in the game went through the same struggle.
What's Next for Bangladesh?
A Grammy in 09, we have been nominated for a few of those with A Millie. I have my own projects that I’m working on. I have my Artist Muffy that I’m working with right now and I’m also working on my Album. I have a song ‘Girls Love Me’ featuring Rick Ross and Busta Rhymes and ‘How you feel’ with Muffy. I’m recording a mixtape with Don Canon and I’ll be doing five videos with the mixtape. I’m also working with Busta Rhymes and Fabolous right now. I worked on the first single for Young Joc. . I pitch beats to anyone who wants them. I can give a beat to someone today and three months they are ready they pay the money and the track it’s recorded. Anything I do is Single material, you want a hit come see me I’m the Dope Man! I got those heroine tracks.

The KiD Famous
By: Roxanne Blake
Swagg: What is the story of famous?
Famous: I was born in Montreal and moved to Toronto, I’m reppin Toronto right now. My background is entertainment in general. Before becoming a rapper I was working behind the scenes. I moved to Toronto because of an internship at Universal, and then I left Universal to intern at Sony BMG. I got into working in radio and to put it bluntly . . . ‘I Rap Now’.
Swagg: How would you describe your Swagg and your Music?
Famous: My Swagg is on Max. Famous has his own unique sound. Lyrically my flow is down to earth, some real ish. The presentation of my material is more of a character, it’s all about the Swagg and if I had to describe it, I quote “Kanye West meets Eminem with Fabulous’ stylist, the dedication of Ashton James and the mind frame of puffy in the 90’s”
Swagg: Where did you get the name famous?
Famous: The name famous was a name my boy gave to me when I first moved to Toronto from Montreal. I was always traveling to different countries and meeting new people. Whether I was partying with Puff or chilling in Atlanta with Jeezy, my boys would always call me and I’d tell them the story ‘you wouldn’t believe who I was chilling with yesterday?’ and they’d say “oh you famous now”. Plus, with a name like famous it carries a lot of weight so it gives me something to live up to.
Swagg: What do you have out right now?
Famous: I have the “I Rap Now” Ep. available and the Clinton Sparks version. There are 5 tracks on there that paints a picture of the evolution of The Kid turned, Famous. It’s for download on itunes and on www.irapnow.com. I have the singles and music videos out for “I’m Here” and “Big Man Tings”. Everything I put out is quality so look out.
