DJ Whoo Kid Swagg News Interview
By Roxy Blake
DJ Whoo Kid, 50 Cent’s official Dj is talented with the turntables and his Swagg is out of control. DJ Whoo Kid has been a part of the Hip Hop industry for over 10 years so he is well connected. His strong, comedic personality ties in well with his radio show on XM satellite radio. Swagg met up with him during his Birth month, while he was booked all over the world to Dj for his own series of Birthday Parties. This is what he told Swagg about his Birthday Party in NYC, the Rap Game and The Whoo Kid Show.
Swagg: Tell me about your birthday party jump off at Sutra in Manhattan? What was the guestlist like?
Whoo Kid: October is my Birthday month so I started from New York to Canada, I’ll be in UK, Dubai, Africa and Columbia. I’m celebrating the whole month. The first party started with Banks and Yayo, which is very rare in New York City, parting till 5 in the Morning with 20 Cops outside. Busta Rhymes couldn’t get in because he’s scared of cops so he left. We had every other artist in there like Juelz Santana and Jim Jones. Swagg Boss Big Apple was in the building. Even Olivia was in there with her boobs. We had porno stars, basketball players, Athletes, and movie stars. The whole cast of the Wire, there were too many to name. The whole industry was there labels from Def Jam to Jive. We had over 600 people inside and outside. A lot of people were trying to get in.
Swagg: You are not the typical DJ, you’re always evolving. What should we look forward to for DJ Whoo Kid?
Who Kidd: The future looks bright right now as far as the radio show, my web company is coming. My Clothing line was sold out in 3 weeks. It’s called SV boutique.com it’s collabos with a lot of big name brands. I have a Nike Account so I’m doing it worldwide selling to everybody all over the planet. My Website coming, it will be very funny and entertaining so all the people coming with the gangsta bullshit talking about selling coke, there won’t be any of that fake shit. At the end of the day these gangsters talk about that on TV and they go golfing and swimming and they are at Starbucks getting cappuccinos. They always have this new face on TV. They would sell more if they were themselves. The are not selling to gangsters they are selling to young kids and people who love music. So Cut It Out! Nobody is getting amped off of killing people. The main thing is to be cool. You have to be creative the gangster stuff is dead. Look at Kanye West selling millions and he’s wearing Louise Vuitton Pampers, nobody cares, he’s being himself and being creative. He may be bitchy at times but he’s a real dude. That’s what hip hop is nowadays you have to be on some other level. Right now I listen to in my car is old school music, dance music and pop. These guys are my heroes, like Big Daddy Kane and Dr. Dre the old dudes that’s when Hip hop was hot. Now everybody is snapping and prancing I can’t even remember the hits of last year.
Swagg: So what rappers are you feeling in the Game right now?
Who Kidd: I got my crew (G-Unit) I listen to them. The other people I really listen to are TI, Rick Ross and Lupe. Kanye is driving me crazy with the auto-tune; he needs to get back to the beats. But there are not much people out there. I don’t know, I’m confused I don’t even want to listen to it anymore. I just rock the party and play what the people want to hear. They pay me to make them dance. I got respect for DJs but there is no money in it. DJ is just to get yourself in a position and now that people know who you are you figure out what else you can do. Are you a movie star, are you a comedian? Look at Will Smith he obviously doesn’t care about rap it was just a stepping stone. He obviously wanted to be more than a rapper he used rap as a stepping stone.
Swagg: How have you used DJ-ing as your stepping-stone?
Who Kidd: I’ve been DJ-ing for 10 -12 years, I know all the losers, people who’ve made it those who didn’t make it and the one hit wonders. I have put it all together and I’ve figured it out the only way you can make it in rap is the business part. You have a magazine, the camera that’s filming me right now to go and sell it. It’s all about Marketing; or you have to know a rich Jewish guy! If you don’t know a rich Jewish guy, why are you into hip hop? Being a rapper right now is a 100 million times harder.
Swagg: Tell me about The Whoo Kid radio Show.
Who Kidd: 10am-5pm on Serious XM satellite radio and d we are up to 20 million listeners and we have the bootleggers and bloggers that rip my show off the net so if you missed it you can find it somewhere on the net.
Swagg: You conduct a lot of interviews do you do prepare for them or you just go off the top?
Who Kidd: Depending on the artist or the movie star I may do a little research but most of the funny stuff is off the top. Usually whoever I’m interviewing, I already have a lot of information on them I may have watched their movie or listen to their music. I’ve been in the game for more than 20 years so I know almost everybody and I even knew them before they blew up from the T.I’s to the Ludacris’ so I know their story. They are more comfortable with me and I can even cross the line and they won’t be offended because it’s me. E40 for example, nobody would ever make the funny sounds that he makes because they would be afraid that he would slap them but I have known E40 for 10 years so it’s different when I interview him. That’s what’s cool about listening to my show every week because no matter how hardcore the person is I can bring the coolness out of them.
